Kerala is mourning the loss of renowned singer P Jayachandran, who passed away on Thursday evening. Expressing his deep sorrow, legendary singer K J Yesudas paid tribute to Jayachandran, calling him a close friend and brother.
“I am extremely saddened by the passing of Jayachandran. All that remains are the memories we shared. Our bond began through his elder brother, Sudhakaran. He came to us like a little brother. He was a brother who had a deep love for music. Music was the foundation of our relationship. He achieved a brotherly status within that musical bond. I cannot express the pain I felt when that connection was lost. I would also like to convey that I am as saddened by his passing as those who loved him,” said Yesudas.
P Jayachandran, who had been undergoing treatment for cancer for the past year, passed away at 7:54 pm on Thursday at a private hospital in Thrissur. Although he was discharged on Wednesday, he was re-admitted on Thursday evening.
A public viewing will be held at his residence in Poonkunnam on Friday from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. Another viewing will take place at the Regional Theater from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. The funeral will be held on Saturday at the Paliam Kovilakom in Chendamangalam, Ernakulam.
Jayachandran is survived by his wife, Lalitha, and children, Lakshmi and Dinanath, both of whom are also singers.
