Thiruvananthapuram: Malayalam writer and teacher Dr S V Venugopan Nair (76) passed away at around 1.30 am on Tuesday. He was undergoing treatment at KIMS hospital for old-age-related ailments. 

He was born in Neyattinkara on April 18, 1945. He completed his education at Kulathoor High School and Thiruvananthapuram University College. He held MA, MPhil and PhD degrees in Malayalam literature and worked as a Malayalam teacher in many colleges. 

He has penned short story collections like Garbashreeman, Aadhisheshan, Mruthithalam, Rekhayillatha oraal, Bhoomiputhrante Vazhi, Kathakalisaadaram and Ottapalam. He has been honoured with Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award, Edassery Award, Padmarajan Award, Lalithambika Antharjanam Smaraka Sahitya Award, CV Kunjuraman Literary Award and Dr K M George Foundation Research Award. 

His cremation will be held on Thursday. Wife: Valsala.
