Sreekandapuram (Kannur): Daily wage workers unearthed gold and silver hoards while digging rain pits in Chengalayi in Kerala's Kannur district on Thursday.
The valuables were found in a rubber plantation near Govt. UP School here.
The items found include 17 pearl beads, 13 gold lockets, four medallions (likely part of a cashew necklace), five ancient rings, a set of earrings, and several silver coins.
The discovery occurred on Thursday evening when labourers dug a one-meter-deep pit to collect rainwater. The workers notified the police, and Sub Inspector MV Sheeju's team took custody of the items and later produced them in court on Friday.
The Department of Archeology will inspect the findings to determine the age and origins of the items unearthed. Initial assessments suggest the artifacts are very old.
