A 75-year-old woman was killed in a wild elephant attack in Malakkappara

Thrissur: A 75-year-old woman was killed in a wild elephant attack in the early hours of Thursday in Malakkappara, Thrissur district near the Tamil Nadu check post. The deceased has been identified as Mary, a local resident.
The incident occurred around 1 am while Mary and her daughter were asleep inside their house. A wild elephant reportedly broke into the property, forcing both women to flee for their lives. While attempting to escape, they were chased by the elephant. The animal fatally attacked Mary during the pursuit.
The house was also reportedly damaged during the incident. Local authorities are expected to assess the situation and respond to the growing concern over human-wildlife conflict in the region.
This is the latest in a string of such incidents in the forested border areas of Thrissur district, which have seen increasing wildlife incursions into inhabited zones.
