Palakkad: A woman was hacked to death in Nalleppilly here on Tuesday. The deceased have been identified as Urmila (32). 

Initial reports indicate that Urmila's husband, Sajeesh, is behind the murder. For the past year, both were living separately. 

The incident happened around 6:50 a.m. while Urmila was on her way to work. According to police, the accused hacked her from behind while she was walking down the road. 

The accused is said to have fled on his bike after committing the crime. A few months back, Sajeesh similarly tried to attack her at her residence. Back then, he was booked for attempted murder and was remanded for almost 50 days. He was released on bail later. 

Locals were the first to arrive at the scene after hearing Urmila's calls for help. Vinod, who lives close by, was the first person to arrive. He told police that he saw someone attacking a woman and later leaving on a bike.
