Ambalapuzha: Shibina Ansar, 31, the wife of CPM Ambalapuzha Karur branch secretary J Ansar, passed away at the Alappuzha Medical College Hospital on Sunday while undergoing treatment for postpartum complications.

Shibina was admitted to the hospital and successfully delivered a baby girl. However, due to the infant's health concerns, she was kept under medical observation while Shibina was discharged. However, Shibina developed an infection and had to be readmitted.

Her health rapidly deteriorated, and on Sunday morning, she required ventilation. Despite medical efforts, she tragically succumbed to her condition in the afternoon.

The family of the deceased has alleged negligence on the part of the hospital authorities and doctors. They assert that Shibina was discharged despite their communication about her declining health. They further contend that adequate care was not given, resulting in the escalation of a severe infection.

These allegations prompted protests from relatives, leading to heightened tensions within the hospital premises. Responding to the family's claims, Ambalapuzha Police have initiated an investigation into the incident, registering a case of unnatural death.

Health Minister Veena George has mandated an inquiry into the matter, to be conducted under the supervision of the Joint Director of the Department of Medical Education.
