“Today’s declaration is dedicated to Salman and all other young sports lovers like him,” he posted on Facebook.

Thrissur: In view of the Orange Alert and continued heavy rainfall in the district, the Thrissur District Collector Arjun Pandian has declared a holiday for all educational institutions on Thursday, July 17, 2025, as a precautionary measure.
The holiday will apply to all professional colleges, anganwadis, nurseries, Kendriya Vidyalayas, CBSE and ICSE schools, tuition centres and madrasas. However, there will be no change to pre-scheduled examinations or interviews, which will go ahead as planned.
In a heartfelt note shared publicly, Collector Arjun Pandian mentioned that children often ask him about holidays—both in person and on social media. One such message came from Salman, a Class 7 student the Collector had met during a marathon held in Palappilly last month.
“Today’s declaration is dedicated to Salman and all other young sports lovers like him,” he posted on Facebook.
"Rain holidays are announced after carefully assessing the weather conditions and official alerts. After a short break, here comes another rainy day off. I urge children to use the day wisely—spend time studying, engage in creative activities and most importantly, stay indoors. Avoid rivers and other water bodies," he noted down.
Concluding his message, the Collector wrote warmly, "To Salman and all the little ones who love sports and are chasing big dreams, I dedicate this holiday. May all of you achieve the success you strive for. I hope Salman too runs ahead towards great achievements."
