Palakkad: Wild jumbo ‘Dhoni’ aka ‘PT 7’ (Palakkad Tusker), which was captured and caged by the Kerala Forest Department, has vision loss in the right eye, stated a medical report. The forest department has informed the matter to a committee appointed by the Kerala High Court in this regard. 

PT 7, which had terrorised the residents of the Dhoni region in Palakkad, was tranquilised after relentless efforts by a task force with the help of Kumki elephants, six months back. The jumbo was later shifted to Dhoni forest station. 

A subsequent examination carried out by the forest department officials found the presence of around 15 gun pellets inside PT 7’s body. It was estimated to be the result of country-made gunshots fired at the jumbo as it raged havoc in residential areas. 

Meanwhile, it is believed that the eyesight loss could have occurred amid any accident or attack. Although medicines were given to the tusker, there has been no improvement in its eyesight so far.
