Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread rains in Kerala for the next five days. A low pressure area has developed in the regions from southern Gujarat coast to Kerala coast. As a result, isolated, very heavy rains are likely across the state on Tuesday, June 30 and July 1.

Orange alert has been sounded in Idukki on Tuesday. Districts namely Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur are under yellow alert on Tuesday. Further, yellow alerts have also been declared in Idukki, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod on July 1.

Meanwhile, winds gusting up to a speed of 40-45 kmph are likely over Kerala-Karnataka and Lakshadweep coasts till July 1. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea on account of the bad weather conditions. Kerala coasts (from Vizhinjam to Kasaragod) are also likely to witness waves up to a height of 2.3 - 2.8 metres.
