Inspired by their children, a Palakkad couple attends the Higher Secondary Equivalency Exam, highlighting adult education`s importance

Palakkad: Years after dropping out of school, a couple from Palakkad have reignited their academic journey, this time, inspired by their children. Abu Tahir (40) and his wife Taslima (30), residents of Hidayat Nagar in Poolakkad, Palakkad, attended the Higher Secondary Equivalency Examination with renewed determination.
On Thursday, the couple appeared together for the second-year Malayalam exam at PMG Higher Secondary School in Palakkad. Having already completed their 10th standard education, the duo credits the Kerala State Literacy Mission for making continued learning more accessible.
Abu Tahir, who teaches at the Poolakkad and Cholod Madrasas, and Taslima have both been regular attendees at the Sunday equivalency classes conducted at Govt. Moyan MGHSS School, Palakkad, for the past two years. After successfully clearing all subjects in the Plus One examination, they are now confidently attempting the Plus Two level.
The couple’s inspiration came from watching their children, Fathima Najiya ( class 8), Muhammad Anas (class 4), and Muhammad Hadi (class 2) progress in their studies. “Seeing our children study made us want to do the same. We didn’t want our education to remain unfinished,” said Abu Tahir.
