Wayanad native goes missing in river in suspected crocodile attack

Meenangadi: In an unusual incident, a man went missing in a river in a suspected case of crocodile attack in Meenangadi on Wednesday. The missing person is identified as Surendran (55), hailing from Murani near Meenangadi.

The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon. According to Shaila, the wife of Surendran, she witnessed a creature pulling her husband towards the river close to their home. The incident happened while Surendran was collecting fodder near the river bank. 

Surendran’s shoes and towel were later found on the banks of the river. Meanwhile, the search operation led by Fire and Safety officials, police, the NDRF team and others failed to locate Surendran. The operation was halted on Wednesday night and resumed in the morning. 

Nearby residents have claimed sightings of crocodiles in the vicinity of the Karapuzha dam in the past. This dam releases water that eventually flows into the Panamaram river.
