Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that as many as 179 bodies have been identified in the Wayanad disaster so far. Not a single person of the 17 families is left, informed Chief Minister in a press conference. He also said that 65 people died from these families.

A total of 729 families were in relief camps in the Wayanad disaster affected area. Of these, 219 families are currently in camps. Others have moved into rented houses or family homes. They will be given the government sanctioned rent.

A number of 75 government quarters have been repaired and made habitable. The owners of 177 houses identified by the government are ready to rent them out. Of these, 123 are currently eligible for living. A total of 105 rental houses have already been allotted.

An amount of Rs 6 lakh each, including Rs 4 lakh from SDRF and Rs 2 lakh from CMDRF, has already been distributed to the dependents of 59 deceased persons. Rs 10,000 each was distributed as emergency financial assistance to 691 families. Apart from this, Rs 10,000 each was handed over to the families of 172 people for their post-mortem ceremonies.

Only 119 people remain to be found. The Chief Minister added that DNA samples have been collected from their relatives of 91 people and sent for testing.
