Koyilandy (Kozhikode): Forest Conservator R Keerthi has stated that there was a violation of the Kerala Captive Elephant Rules during the Manakulangara temple festival at Kuruvangad here, where a captive elephant ran amok, leading to the tragic loss of three lives. She confirmed that a report on the matter has been submitted to the Forest Minister A K Saseendran.
Temple authorities had previously claimed that no violations had occurred. However, the Forest Conservator's report contradicts their claims.
According to available information, the report addresses issues such as the bursting of firecrackers and the required minimum distance between elephants during processions. Although R Keerthi has not disclosed further details, she confirmed that recommendations for action have been made and that violations were indeed found. She added that the Forest Minister would provide further clarifications on the matter.
