
Kozhikode: On this auspicious day of Vijayadashami, young minds opened to the world of letters by sketching out their first alphabets on rice. Devotees thronged temples in large numbers across the state for the learning initiation ceremony. Many such ceremonies were also held in cultural centres, libraries and other designated locations.

Thousands came to the Kollur Mookambika Devi Temple for the Vidyarambha ceremony which began around 5 AM on Tuesday. Kottayam Panachikkadu temple, one of the most visited sites for this auspicious ceremony, also drew a large crowd.
Around 800 children are expected to participate in the ceremony at Thiruvananthapuram while 2000 are expected at the Saraswati Mandapam. At Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple, children etch out their first letters at Vyasa’s nada.
