Alappuzha: SNDP Yogam General Secretary Vellappally Natesan launched a sharp attack on Thiruvananthapuram Mayor Arya Rajendran. He said that rude behaviour towards people was one of the reasons the Left lost the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation. Those in power, he said, must show humility.

Vellappally’s words:

“Arya Rajendran was excessively praised by everyone – she was unmarried and educated. She, in turn, rose too high. The negative effects of this arrogance were seen there—poor behaviour towards people. In the KSRTC bus driver row, didn’t she stop the driver and slap a case on him? Isn’t that arrogance of power? Don’t those in power need humility?”

Her lack of humility, along with her youthful arrogance and ego, became a topic of discussion. This also became a factor in the Corporation election. Arya Rajendran did not display the public style expected of a public representative. She still needs to learn to bend, Vellappally said.

The Left failed to take the good work they did to the grassroots. On top of that, social behaviour too became a setback. If leaders at the grassroots behave well, things can improve further. Some people also show stubbornness. This is not the old era. People must be treated with dignity and affection. Otherwise, this is an age when even children say “go away, father.” He also said that many ministers failed this time to put up performances better than previous ministers.
