Thiruvananthapuram: Vice Chancellors of nine universities have approached the Kerala High Court with a plea challenging the order of Governor Arif Mohammad Khan asking them to tender resignation by 11:30 am on Monday. None of the VCs have resigned. Even though Monday is a holiday, the High Court will hold a special sitting at 4 pm. Justice Devan Ramachandran will hear the case.
Pointing out the Supreme Court’s recent order quashing the appointment of the technical university VC, the Kerala governor sought resignation of VCs of nine varsities in the state.
Governor Khan demanded the resignation of VCs of University of Kerala, Mahatma Gandhi University, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies, Kannur University, APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit , University of Calicut and Thunchath Ezhuthachan Malayalam University.
However, six VCs informed the governor in writing that they will not resign. All VCs except MG, Fisheries and technical universities have written to the governor.
