Malappuram: The government has announced a compensation of ₹10 lakh for those who died in the Valparai tragedy. It stated that ₹10 lakh each will be given to the families of five victims who are not covered under insurance, while others were covered by insurance. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting.

The compensation from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund will be provided to the families of the deceased: school bus driver Naushad Ali, cooking staff Sajida, Rukhiya, Shakeela, and student Muhammad Hisham.

The government will also bear the treatment expenses of Muhammad Shahadin, son of a deceased teacher, Masneen, daughter of another teacher; and vehicle driver Muhammad Fahis, who were injured in the accident. For those with insurance coverage, any additional treatment expenses beyond insurance will also be reimbursed from the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund, the cabinet decided.

Pay Commission

The cabinet also approved the ratification of an order creating 14 additional posts to ensure the smooth functioning of the 12th Pay Commission.
