Kochi: Amidst the ongoing conflict, the synod has issued a written order demanding that a uniform holy mass be conducted in the Syro-Malabar churches.

A circular signed by all the bishops who attended the Syro-Malabar church synod was forwarded to the priests. With this, a resolution may be in sight for the long-standing dispute.

A total of 49 bishops and archbishops signed the circular on the final day of the synod under the chairmanship of Major Archbishop Raphael Thattil.

Earlier, Pope Francis had called for a unified holy mass system in the churches under the Archdiocese of Ernakulam from December 25, 2023. The circular calls for its implementation even if there are differences of opinion in the archdiocese.

The circular also specifies that the order containing the synod’s request should be read midway during mass the following Sunday in all the parishes and institutions under the archdiocese and be made available to the laity.
