Alappuzha: In a big shame for the state, the plaque recognising Kuttanad as a ‘Global Agricultural Heritage Zone' by the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) has now gone missing.
The award was accepted by renowned agricultural scientist late MS Swaminathan in 2012. It was later handed over to former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy in a function.
The late Congress leader is said to have given the honorary plaque to the concerned officials for its installation in Kuttanad. However, its whereabouts remain a mystery.
MS Swaminathan is credited with playing a critical role in obtaining recognition for Kuttanad as one of the world's 82 agricultural heritage zones.
