Kozhikode: A concrete sunshade of a building in Valiyangadi here collapsed, claiming three lives. Among the deceased, Ashraf and Jabbar, natives of Kinassery, have been identified. The identity of the third deceased has not yet been confirmed.The sunshade fell on workers resting outside the building. Those trapped under the fallen concrete slabs were rescued by fellow workers and the fire force and shifted to hospital.

The sunshade belonged to a building around 60 years old, owned by the municipal corporation. The building houses several commercial establishments. Workers in Valiyangadi usually rest outside this building. Several two-wheelers were also trapped under the fallen slabs.

Immediately after the accident, three people trapped under the debris were rescued and taken to hospital. One person was removed from under the slabs only after the Fireforce arrived and cleared the debris.
