Kottayam: The NDA has two candidates each in Ettumanoor and Poonjar constituencies in the assembly election. BJP and BDJS have fielded their candidates in both the constituencies.
In Ettumanoor, N Sreenivasan submitted the nomination paper for BDJS while TN Harikumar filed the paper for BJP. The conflict between the two parties resulted in two nominations from NDA here.
Though BJP had demanded in replacing the BDJS candidates in Poonjar and Ettumanoor, the latter took a stern stance. Following this BJP fielded Kottayam district president Noble Mathew in Poonjar even though BDJS candidate MP Sen filed the nomination.
Earlier BDJS had declared MR Ullas as their candidate. But as the Supreme Court verdict on the appeal filed against Kerala High Court order preventing aided school teachers from contesting the elections was delayed, Ullas was replaced. Though on Thursday a verdict in favour of Ullas was announced, BDJS had already decided on his replacement as MP Sen.
Ullas is a teacher at CKM School in Koroothode.
Discussions are underway to reach an amicable solution before the deadline to withdraw nominations.
