Kannur: In a massive relief for the passengers in the state, Indian Railway has brought down the minimum ticket fare for Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) and Express trains (old passenger) to Rs 10.
Before COVID-19, the minimum ticket fare was Rs.10, which was later increased to Rs. 30. But it's still unclear which trains are affected by this change.
Railway's Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) app from now on will have a new section called 'ordinary'. As per this system, the fare to travel from Kannur to Thalassery will be Rs. 10. The fare is set at Rs 10 per 45 km, with Rs 5 in additional fare every 25 km.
At present, the railway operates 11 passenger trains and 12 MEMU trains in the state.
