Thrissur: A UKG student was brutally beaten up by a teacher, who is now in hiding. The teacher has been suspended for assaulting the child with a cane for not copying down what she wrote on the black board in his school diary. The incident occurred at St Joseph's Model Higher Secondary School in Kuriachira, where the five-year-old student sustained multiple injuries and bruises on his legs. The teacher, a native of Thrissur, has been identified as Selin. The Nedupuzha Police have registered a case against her. She has not been arrested yet. The police confirmed that she is absconding.

According to the FIR, the child's legs bore cane marks, and the case was filed following a complaint from the child's family. The teacher faces charges under the Juvenile Justice Act for subjecting the child to physical harm.

There are allegations of pressure being exerted on the child’s parents to withdraw the complaint, which was filed soon after the incident occurred last Monday. Despite efforts to trace the teacher, her whereabouts remain unknown. The child’s family alleged that the assault happened while the child was playing. As per the complaint, the teacher repeatedly hit the child with a cane as the boy did not cry when she initially beat him.

The child's family also approached the Child Rights Commission, but no response has been received yet. The relatives of the child have expressed frustration on the lack of action taken.
