Thrissur: Jose Valloor has been removed as Thrissur District Congress Committee (DCC) President following the defeat of party veteran K. Muraleedharan in the constituency.
Palakkad MP-elect VK Sreekandan has been temporarily assigned the role of DCC in-charge. The decision by the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) came after discussions in Delhi.
In recent days, posters and statements criticising leaders have appeared, and there have been clashes among workers at the DCC office. Following a complaint by DCC Secretary and Muraleedharan supporter Sajeevan Kuriachira, a case was filed against the DCC President.
As the situation deteriorated, Valloor went to Delhi as instructed by the leadership. It is learnt that he presented his arguments to the KPCC President and the Leader of the Opposition. Valloor, who contested from the Ollur constituency in the last Legislative Assembly, became the DCC President two and a half years ago.
