
Thrissur: An assistant jailer at Thrissur Central Prison and Correction Home was arrested for selling beedis to inmates at exorbitant prices. The accused, Shamsuddin, was arrested by Viyyur Police after beedi packers were recovered from him during an inspection conducted by the jail superintendent.
According to sources, Shamsuddin sold a bundle of beedis, which typically cost ₹200, to prisoners for an inflated price of ₹4,000. Further investigations revealed that Shamsuddin had been involved in another case of misconduct. During his tenure at the Central Jail, he faced action for allegedly selling rice illegally.
