
Palakkad: Cherpulassery police here on Friday nabbed three people for allegedly smuggling liquor from Mahe to Attappadi. The accused have been identified as Suresh Babu, a CPM activist, Pramod and Abdul Hakeem.
The gang was caught during a police inspection at Cherpulassery on Friday. The police seized 268 litres of liquor from their car.
“It is learnt that they used to buy large quantities of liquor from Mahe and take it Cherpulassery. From here, they carry it to Attappadi, a liquor-prohibited zone for selling it at a higher price,” said the police.
The police have also seized two cars that escorted the vehicle carrying liquor.
Reportedly, the accused Suresh Babu is a former secretary and member of Cherpulassery High School Road CPM branch committee.
