Thiruvananthapuram: Renewable energy production in Kerala witnessed a three-fold increase in the last 10 years, shows the Power System Statistics Report, 2022-23, released by the Kerala State Electricity Board recently.
In 2022-23, Kerala generated 2169.06 million units of renewable energy, including small hydro, wind, and solar projects. In 2013-14, it was 660.49 MU.

To put things in perspective, the net production of hydro electricity under KSEB in 2022-23 was 8538.03 MU (inclusive of the small hydro projects managed by KSEB).
The total installed capacity of renewable energy stands at 1148.35 megawatt.
Net solar production in the last fiscal year was 856.63 MU. Among this, the biggest share belongs to Net Metered Solar Prosumer-LT (popularly known as roof top solar plants), at 339.18 MU.
Of the renewable energy produced in 2022-23, the power generated by non-solar plants was 1312.43 MU.
Total production of wind energy in 2022-23 was 379.35 MU.
Meanwhile, the annual energy requirement has increased by 6477.03 MU in the last ten years. The requirement as of March 31, 2023 stands at 27741.54 MU.
