Thiruvananthapuram: Chief election officer Teeka Ram Meena affirmed of fraud and irregularities in the voters list and said bogus voters were added. He said a few complaints from political leaders on rigged voters list were received and the preliminary investigation by district collectors have proved to some extent that bogus voters were added. Teeka Ram Meena said that thousands of bogus voters were found in the voters list.

“Bogus voters are a major issue from time immemorial. This is because the Block Level Officers (BLOs) do not conduct proper scrutiny in many places. In Kasargod, 5 voters card was given in the name of Kumari. Four of the cards were destroyed and the concerned authority responsible for this has been suspended,” he said.

Parties do not get election agents in polling booths most of the time. To redress this issue, parties can appoint voters itself as election agents. A proper investigation will be held in all constituencies to identify bogus voters, he said.

The state is experiencing these kind of issues for a long time. Political parties do not come out about the irregularities at the right time. All political parties are in a sleep mode and have woken up only now, he said.

The Opposition Congress had raised serious allegations of fraud and irregularities in the preparation of voters' list in Kerala ahead of the April 6 assembly polls. Leader of Opposition Ramesh Chennithala said bogus votes have been added extensively in each constituency across the state. There were instances of the name of a person being included in the voters list of the same constituency five or six times.
