Kochi: Veteran Malayalam playback singer Thoppil Anto (81) passed away at his residence in Edapally here on Saturday due to age-related ailments.
He was a notable figure in the theatre and film industry for decades. After a successful stint in theatre, he made his entry as a playback singer in the Malayalam film industry during the 1970s.
He was honoured with the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy award for light music in 1982, Pravasi Pranava Dhwani Puraskar (2010) and the Changampuzha Samskarika Kendram award.
He is popular for his songs in many Malayalam films including 'Father Damien' (1963), 'Anubhavangale Nandi' (1976), 'Sneham Oru Pravaham' (1979) and 'Veenapoovu' (1982).
