Thiruvananthapuram: Two people have been arrested by Karamana police in connection with an attempted gold robbery in which a scooter rider was knocked down by a bike. The incident took place on the national highway near Neeramankara in Thiruvananthapuram around 7 pm on Tuesday. The accused have been identified as Shanavas (26) and Krishnan (23) from Pallichal.
The robbery attempt targeted Rakesh Thampi, an employee of a finance company in Karamana, who was carrying a bag containing over 40 sovereigns of gold.
Rakesh was travelling on his scooter from Karakkamandapam to Karamana when the suspects followed him on a bike. The robbery attempt was reportedly made after the suspects realized he was carrying a bag full of gold. The assailants collided with him from behind, causing him to fall. They tried to snatch the bag from him, but Rakesh resisted.
Locals and police rushed to the scene, and Shanavas was caught immediately at the spot. Krishnan, who had escaped on the bike, was later apprehended on Wednesday from his hideout under the leadership of Karamana SHO Anoop S. The accused were produced in court and remanded.
