Thrissur: The construction of the third railway line in the state is progressing rapidly with the foundation stone laying ceremony for a new double-lane bridge across the Bharatapuzha on Tuesday.

The ceremony, held at around 9:30 a.m., took place near the railway track close to Shoranur station. The event was attended by the Deputy Chief Engineer from Chennai.

According to earlier reports from 'Mathrubhumi', 42 crores have been allocated for the construction of this single-span, two-way bridge, which will eventually become the third and fourth lanes. The bridge, less than 700 meters in length, will be built to the right of the existing Cochin railway bridge between Vallathol Nagar and Shoranur Junction.

Currently, severe traffic congestion in the Shoranur region often results in trains being halted. The new bridge aims to alleviate these issues and improve the flow of rail traffic in the area.
