Kannur: The bail conditions of former Kannur District Panchayat President P.P. Divya, who was arrested in connection with the death of ADM Naveen Babu, have been relaxed. The condition that she should not leave Kannur district has been lifted. She is now permitted to attend district panchayat meetings. The requirement to appear before the police every Monday has also been relaxed.
The relaxation applies to key conditions imposed when Divya was granted bail. The Thalassery Principal Sessions Court issued the order modifying the bail terms. Now, Divya is only required to appear before the investigation officers when summoned. The petition submitted by Naveen Babu’s family, requesting to preserve evidence, was scheduled for a verdict on Wednesday. However, the verdict has been postponed to another date.
Divya was arrested in connection with the abetment of suicide case related to the death of Additional District Magistrate Naveen Babu. She was remanded and later granted bail on November 8, after 11 days in custody. The defense argued in court that the allegations regarding the ADM accepting bribes were based on circumstantial evidence and that their actions were well-intentioned. They also admitted in court that the farewell meeting speech could have been avoided.
