A Tanzanian naval officer has gone missing in the Kochi backwaters on Sunday evening during a training session. The incident occurred near Thevara bridge when the officer jumped into the waters as part of a routine exercise.

The missing officer has been identified as Abjul Ibrahim Salahi. He was undergoing advanced training in Kochi after completing a course at the Ezhimala Naval Academy. According to initial reports, Salahi failed to surface after jumping from the Thevara bridge.

Search operation underway

A search operation involving the Fire and Rescue Services and Indian Navy personnel is currently underway. Authorities are yet to locate the missing officer, and the efforts to trace him continue into the night.
