Thiruvananthapuram: The prisons department has sought an explanation after the gold smuggling case accused Swapna Suresh and K T Ramees were given treatment at the same hospital at the same time.
The High Security Superintendent and the Women's Prison Superintendent at Viyyur central prison have been asked to give a detailed explanation including statements of doctors.
Swapna had sought treatment for chest pain twice within one week. Ramees sought treatment complaining of stomach pain. Both were taken to the Thrissur Medical College. Swapna was admitted to the hospital earlier following chest pain and was discharged after 6 days.
Ramees was taken to medical college half an hour after Swapna Suresh was taken there. The prisons department sought an explanation after suspicions over the two accused being brought to the hospital at the same time.
Meanwhile, the medical board at Thrissur Medical Board has convened a meeting to decide on discharging Swapna. Doctors said that Swapna underwent an Echocardiogram (Echo) test and that her health condition was satisfactory.
