Kannur: Swapna Suresh has been granted bail in the defamation case brought against her by CPM State Secretary M. V. Govindan. The judgement was delivered by the Taliparamba Judicial First Class Magistrate Court. Despite repeated summons, Suresh failed to appear in court, resulting in a warrant being issued for her arrest.
Suresh maintains her allegations against Govindan, which she initially made during a Facebook live broadcast. She claims that she was promised Rs. 30 crores through an intermediary to retract her accusations in the gold smuggling case, where she is the prime accused. She further alleges that she was subjected to blackmail.
Soon after securing bail, Suresh's counsel said they wished that both CM Vijayan and his daughter would show the guts that Govindan showed. “We challenge both Vijayan and his daughter to file a defamation case against the revelation that she has made. We wish both of them would show the guts that Govindan did,” said Suresh’s counsel.
The case is scheduled for a next hearing on June 25.
