Mullassery (Thrissur): Union Minister of State Suresh Gopi left without visiting a local school on Saturday, disappointing students, teachers, and parents who had waited for over an hour to welcome him. The incident occurred at Peruvallur Government UP School on Saturday morning.

Although the minister’s vehicle entered through the school gate, he remained inside and did not alight. Shortly after, the car reversed and proceeded directly to the road inauguration ceremony nearby.

Security personnel accompanying the minister later stated that the school visit was not part of his official itinerary and that the minister had to leave due to security considerations.

The Peruvallur Government School, which is set to celebrate its centenary in 2026, had submitted a request for funding from the MP’s fund to construct a new building. Suresh Gopi had previously stated that he would visit the school in person before taking a final decision on the matter.

The ward member had informed the school’s headmistress that the minister would visit while in Peruvallur for the road inauguration, prompting school officials, including the Mullassery panchayat president, to prepare for his reception.

In anticipation of the minister’s visit, teachers, including the headmistress, had postponed cluster classes and assembled at the school. However, while he did not step into the school, Suresh Gopi did visit the nearby Peruvallur Anganwadi centre, where he interacted with the children and took photos before leaving the area.
