Thrissur: Actor-politician Suresh Gopi dropped a hint of an introduction of a central system for regulating temples across the country. The BJP leader talked about this while attending a press conference here on Monday (October 2).
“It will be difficult for the Devaswom boards in Kerala to survive with the introduction of the central system. The system is being put in place to put an end to the political atrocities in temples like Sabarimala. Like in the co-operative sector, there should be a ‘master’ in temple governance as well, in order to oversee things,” said Suresh Gopi. He was stressing on the introduction of the Ministry of Cooperation by the union government.
Responding to the CPM allegations that the Enforcement Directorate is indirectly helping Suresh Gopi to rise into prominence, Suresh Gopi said that “I had dropped a hint of a protest against the scam in Karuvannur bank during September last year. This was even before ED came into the picture. If a solution is not found in the issue, I will extend my protests to other districts in Kerala as well. On this occasion, I also demand an investigation into the disbursal of education loans by nationalised banks.”
“The inception of the crisis in the co-op sector can be traced back to the demonetisation days. At that time, a team comprising prominent personalities including CM Pinarayi Vijayan and John Brittas had met former central minister Arun Jaitley seeking a solution for the issue. The former union finance minister had back then recommended strict auditing to avoid malpractices. And what has happened now! Co-op sector functions as a lifeline for the commoners, it needs to be purified and protected,” said the BJP leader.
Suresh Gopi also said that his appointment as the chairman of the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute will not prove a hindrance to his other activities. “I am not drawing any salary for that job. I only need to visit the institution once every three months,” he concluded.
