Passengers in Irinjalakuda protest unfulfilled promise by Union Minister Suresh Gopi to halt three trains at the station. Demand grows amidst highway construction

Thrissur: The Irinjalakuda (Kallettumkara) Railway Passengers Association has voiced strong protest over the failure to implement Union Minister Suresh Gopi’s assurance that three trains would be permitted to halt at Irinjalakuda railway station.
The minister had made the promise during a visit to the station on May 31 to review development plans. However, association leaders said railway authorities have yet to receive any official communication on the matter.
Passengers have long demanded the restoration of discontinued train stops and the introduction of additional halts. The need has become more pressing as many commuters rely on rail travel due to underpass construction along the Angamaly–Mannuthy National Highway.
Suresh Gopi had assured that the Malabar Express, Palaruvi Express and Ernad Express would stop at the station. With severe overcrowding reported on all services, often leaving no room even to stand, association president Shaju Joseph urged that the promised stops be implemented without delay.
