New Delhi: The Supreme Court has dismissed the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) plea against bail granted to Bineesh Kodiyeri for his alleged involvement in a money laundering case as part of drug dealings. A bench comprising justices BR Gavai and Sandeep Mehta dismissed the petition filed by the ED Deputy Director in Bengaluru.
It should be noted that Bineesh was granted bail by Karnataka High Court in October 2021. While dismissing ED’s petition, the Supreme Court bench took note of the fact that Bineesh has been out on bail for the last four years.
Meanwhile, Bineesh Kodiyer’s advocates, G Prakash and ML Jishnu brought to the notice of the apex Court the fact that their party has already approached the Karnataka HC for scrapping the case. The advocates stated that the HC had stayed further proceedings in the case against Binesh Kodiyeri. The counsel also highlighted the ED has not challenged the stay.
After hearing both sides, the SC bench decided to dismiss ED’s petition. Additional Solicitor General KM Nataraj had appeared on behalf of the ED deputy director.
