The matter has been redirected to the Kerala High Court Single Bench, which has been asked to consider it urgently.

The students had approached the Supreme Court seeking restoration of an interim order passed by a Single Judge on October 30. The order had allowed them to appear for semester examinations, which began on November 4, subject to the final outcome of their petition challenging their suspension from the university.

The Kerala High Court Division Bench subsequently overturned the interim order, prompting the students to move the Supreme Court. They had sought permission to provisionally appear for the remaining examination papers and requested special examinations for any papers they might miss before the matter was decided.

The petitioners argued that the Division Bench's decision, delivered on the eve of the examinations, would result in the loss of an entire academic semester.

The 16 students, who are pursuing MSW, MFA, MA, Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) and PhD courses, were suspended by the university on September 1, 2026. The suspension was pending an inquiry into incidents allegedly linked to a student protest held on the campus on August 13.
