Kasaragod: A student from Odisha, Ruby Patel (27), was found dead at the Central University of Kerala's Nila hostel. Ruby was found hanging in the hostel's bathroom. The incident came to light on Tuesday morning.
Ruby had been a research scholar in the Department of Hindi and Comparative Literature at the university. This unfortunate event follows a similar tragedy last February when M.Ed student Nitish Kumar from Uttar Pradesh took his own life in a hotel room.
In response to Ruby's death, the SFI began a strike at the university, urging for the position of counselling psychologist to be filled and for better support services for students.
Amidst the protests, students locked the university Vice Chancellor in a room. Additionally, NSU has announced an indefinite hunger strike in solidarity with the cause.
