Pathanamthitta: A 12-year-old girl suffered severe injuries on her hands and eye in a stray dog attack here on Sunday. The girl is admitted to Pathanamthitta general hospital. Abhirami, daughter of Ranni native Hareesh, was attacked by a stray dog while returning home after purchasing milk.

Though the dog had bitten her left eyelid, its tooth didn’t pierce her eyes. Doctors administered medicine and anti-rabies shots to her. She will be under observation in the hospital for 48 hours.

The incident took place on Sunday near Carmel Engineering College. The stray dog ran towards her and bit her leg first. When she fell, the dog mauled her leaving injuries on her left eye and hands. The locals rushed to the spot and chased the dog. The girl was rushed to Pathanamthitta general hospital with the help of Perunad police.

Stray dog menace has been on the rise in the area, said the natives.
