Union Minister Suresh Gopi calls for strict action after a student`s electrocution at Thevalakkara Boys’ High School. He emphasises prioritising student safety

Kochi: Union Minister Suresh Gopi has responded strongly to the tragic death of student Midhun, who died of electrocution at Thevalakkara Boys’ High School, Kollam. Speaking to the media after the screening of his film Janaki V v/s State of Kerala, the minister said there can be no compromise when it comes to the safety of children.
“Strong action must be taken, setting aside political interests. The political egos of officials must be set aside. Institutions that serve the public, such as schools and hospitals, must ensure safety as a basic requirement,” he said.
The minister stressed that the government must act decisively and without delay. “The DEO must answer. I am not intervening in who runs the school or the nature of the management. What matters is that it is a school, and there should be no compromise when it comes to children's safety. Let the authorities introspect whether such a management should even be allowed to operate. If they are incompetent, let them step down,” Suresh Gopi added.
He also reiterated that those responsible should be held accountable and that no authority should turn a blind eye to such incidents.
