Thiruvananthapuram: The registration department of Kerala has recommended the cabinet to grant relaxation in the stamp duty and registration fee for the property received as gift for the rehabilitation of the landless people. The department suggested relaxation for the beneficiary, who obtained a property up to 10 cents from non-relatives for building a house.
It has also been recommended to exempt stamp duty and registration fee for the land up to two acre received as a gift to set up palliative care institutions, schools, or rehabilitation centres for orphans, disabled persons, or AIDS patients.
Currently, the cabinet has the authority to accord relaxation in the registration fee and stamp duty while transferring property for public interest projects. The cabinet typically grants approval for the recommendations of the registration department only after examining each case and evaluating the revenue loss under the guidance of the department of finance. The delay caused by these proceedings can be avoided by approving the recommendations of the registration department.
