Kochi: Stale meat was seized from a shop at Nettoor in Maradu here. The meat seized from the shop reportedly had a foul smell and was seen discoloured.
Customers, who bought the meat in the morning, noticed the issue with it after reaching home only. They took the meat back to the shop.
The shop neither had a name nor a licence issued by the municipality or food safety department, said reports. Similarly, the employees at the shop do not have health cards.
When the first person returned the meat, the shop owner claimed that it was not rotten. But more people brought back the meat that they had purchased from the shop. Following this, the municipality was informed.
An inspection was conducted at the shop and action was taken against the owner. The shop has been directed to be close temporarily. Officials said that further action will be taken after test results come out.
