"I want to live as Ichiayan desired. I will smile because that’s what he liked. Moving forward with a smile is the only choice for me," Sruthi said, her voice steady despite the devastating pain of losing her parents and sister in the Chooralmala disaster, along with her fiancé, Jenson, in a subsequent road accident. As she spoke from her rented house in Kalpetta, she made an effort to smile, embodying her determination to honour their memories.
Sruthi was attempting to shift her focus away from painful memories and was preparing to move forward with strength. Sruthi also said if she won’t face it boldly, her remaining relatives will also be affected. "If I fall, they will fall too," she said.
“Ichiayan (Jenson) had a business that needs to be carried on. I also badly need a job," she stressed. On the support she is getting from Jenson's family, she said, "Everyone is together, and I am moving forward in that belief. When I’m with them, I feel okay. They remain normal because of my courage. If I fall, they will fall too. I have to stand strong; only then will the family stand strong too," Sruthi said.
She also said that everyone is calling and supporting her. "(Kalpetta MLA) Siddique sir has been incredibly supportive. He even brought a bed to sleep on and a laptop to work with. I’m immensely grateful to him," Sruthi said.
It will take about six months for her to walk again. She also has to undergo a surgery in the coming days.
"A job is crucial for a steady income. I want to study as well. I haven’t made any definite decisions yet. I need to think things through," Sruthi added.
Doctors have advised her to rest for another three weeks before she can start walking again. They have requested her to come to the hospital on Monday.
In the tragedy, Sruthi lost nine family members, including her parents and sister. Her fiancé Jenson, who had been her support during the crisis, died in a road accident recently. Sruthi was discharged from the hospital on Friday and has since moved to her rented home.
