
Nedumbassery: An illicit sanitiser manufacturing unit was busted in Nedumbassery. Spurious sanitiser was recovered from many shops during the raids carried out in the district. In the investigation that followed, it was found that this sanitiser was manufactured at Nedumbassery. The raid at the manufacturing unit was carried out by Drugs Controller Department.
Sanitiser worth Rs 5 lakh was seized from this unit. It was found to be spurious during the primary investigation. Drugs Controller Department said that they have registered a case and charged different sections which is punishable by up to life time imprisonment. The manufacturing centre was run by Aluva native Hashim.
It is reported that Hashim is currently in Mumbai. Locals stated that this centre has been functioning here for the past 4 months. The license number of medicine manufacturing companies based in Gujarat and Manjummel were used in the label of these sanitiser bottles.
The sample will be inspected at a lab in Kakkanad. Further actions will be taken after the result comes out. The raid was carried out by Regional Drugs Inspector Aju Joseph Kurien, Intelligence Branch Drugs Inspector Jayan Philip and Drugs Inspector Glacid Kachappilly.
