Mumbai: Supreme Court Chief Justice DY Chandrachud will present the Jamnalal Bajaj Award 2022 to Malayali social worker Sudha Varghese at an event in the Taj Hotel here on Friday. According to the Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation, Sudha has been selected for rendering social service upholding Gandhian values.
Sudha Varghese is a lawyer by profession as well. She is popularly known as ‘Sister Sudha’ or ‘Cycle Didi’. The inspiring woman has been working tirelessly for the social upliftment of the Musahar community in Bihar. The nation honoured her with the Padma Shri award in 2006. She was born in Kanjirathanam in Kottayam.
Apart from Sudha Varghese, Malayali couple Dr Reji George and Dr Lalitha Reji who render humanitarian service in Tamil Nadu have also been conferred with the awards. They are being honoured under the 'constructive' work category. Raha Naba, Gandhi Ashram trust secretary will receive the Jamnalal Bajaj International Award.
