Thiruvananthapuram: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) will interrogate former IT secretary M. Sivasankar in connection with the gold smuggling case again. The NIA has issued a notice to Sivasankar summoning him to the agency’s Kochi office on Monday.
The NIA had questioned Sivasankar for 5 hours on Thursday. Following this, the agency decided to question him again on Monday.
Earlier, Sivasankar had reiterated his statement given to the Customs department in front of the NIA. Sivasankar has told the NIA that he only had friendship with Swapna Suresh and Sarith, the two accused in the diplomatic baggage gold smuggling case.
Sivasankar stated that he had no role in the gold smuggling case and that he did not know the other accused in the case. Sivasankar denied Sarith’s statement that the former IT secretary was aware of the smuggling.
The NIA is investigating if the accused had visited Sivasankar at his office before the gold was seized. The NIA will also examine CCTV footage from the Secretariat. The NIA has requested CCTV footage from the secretariat from July 1 to 12.
