Kottayam/Thrissur: Following the latest sexual assault allegations, nuns from Kuravilangad convent have demanded action against Bishop Franco Mulakkal.
Sister Anupama demanded security for the nun who gave a statement against the Bishop. Stating that the Bishop filed an appeal to prolong the trial, Sister Anupama said that the Church’s silence in the matter was equal to denying justice.
“Another nun giving a statement against Bishop Franco is a welcome move. The police should have registered a separate case over the statement. The Catholic Church must break its silence in the matter. Instead of standing with the ill-treated, the Church is still supporting those who abused. The Church must refrain from crucifying the ill-treated,” Sister Anupama said.
Meanwhile, Sister Lucy Kalappura said that more people were likely to come forward against Bishop Franco Mulakkal. “The new statement against the Bishop is testimony to that,” she added. Seeking speedy justice from the court, Sister Lucy said that the nun who gave a statement against Bishop Franco was under pressure.
“Even if the court does not provide justice to the nun, the latest allegation will become the severe punishment meted out to Bishop Franco,” Sister Lucy Kalappura said.
